Villain model with long-range couplings

چکیده

The nearest-neighbor Villain, or periodic Gaussian, model is a useful tool to understand the physics of topological defects two-dimensional $XY$ model, as two models share same symmetries and are in universality class. long-range counterpart has been recently shown exhibit non-trivial critical behavior, with complex phase diagram including range values power-law exponent couplings decay, $\sigma$, which there magnetized, disordered (arXiv:2104.13217). Here we address issue whether behavior can be described by Villain model. After introducing suitable generalization couplings, derive set renormalization-group equations for vortex-vortex potential, differs from one signaling that decoupling spin-waves no longer justified this regime. main results $\sigma<2$ Remarkably, within large region its diagram, found behave similarly one-dimensional Ising $1/r^2$ interactions.

Topological Quantum Liquids with Long-Range Couplings.

Very few topological systems with long-range couplings have been considered so far due to our lack of analytic approaches. Here we extend the Kitaev chain, a 1D quantum liquid, to infinite-range couplings and study its topological properties. We demonstrate that, even though topological phases are intimately linked to the notion of locality, the infinite-range couplings give rise to topological...

Canonical solution of classical magnetic models with long-range couplings

We study the canonical solution of a family of classical n − vector spin models on a generic d-dimensional lattice; the couplings between two spins decay as the inverse of their distance raised to the power α, with α < d. The control of the thermodynamic limit requires the introduction of a rescaling factor in the potential energy, which makes the model extensive but not additive. A detailed an...

Chromosomal dynamics predicted by an elastic network model explains genome-wide accessibility and long-range couplings

Understanding the three-dimensional (3D) architecture of chromatin and its relation to gene expression and regulation is fundamental to understanding how the genome functions. Advances in Hi-C technology now permit us to study 3D genome organization, but we still lack an understanding of the structural dynamics of chromosomes. The dynamic couplings between regions separated by large genomic dis...

The Quantum Dissipative Villain Model

We introduce the Quantum Dissipative Villain (QDV) model as a prototype model to study tunneling in dissipative quantum mechanics. Dissipation is provided by a coupled linear environment. In the QDV model, the discrete character of a tunneling degree of freedom coupled to an environment is explicit, leading to a rich dual structure. We derive general exact mappings of the QDV model on several d...

On the Universality of the Energy Response Function in the Long-Range Spin Glass Model with Sparse, Modular Couplings

Department of Physics & Astronomy Rice University, Houston, TX 77005–1892, USA Department of Physics, The Catholic University of Korea, Bucheon 420-743, Korea Abstract We consider energy relaxation of the long-range spin glass model with sparse couplings, the so-called dilute Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (SK) model, starting from a random initial state. We consider the effect that modularity of the ...
